Acupuncture can provide relief for back pain, headaches, stomach issues, hot flashes, osteoarthritis, nausea, anxiety, addiction, insomnia and infertility [ ].


The theory behind acupuncture’s success is the understanding that the human body has 12 meridians along which energy (called gi) flows.  When these channels are blocked or unbalance. This ‘blocking’ results in illness or pain.  To unbalance the gi, a certified acupuncturist inserts needles at strategic points along the meridians.  Acupuncture has been scientifically proven to boost the immune function of the body, and releases anti-inflammatory response which reduces swelling and helps healing.


Two issues that sometimes make patients shy away from utilizing the practice are:


A)     Fear or misunderstanding about the needles used


B)      Cost of the treatment being costly or not-covered by insurance


In Chinese acupuncture, they use the strongest strain of needles, and the patient can typically feel the needle and have aching after treatment.


Japanese style uses a finer needle and they are placed more shallowly do there is little discomfort. 


The Korean method can vary according to nation and their work is primarily in the patient’s hands.  In regards to costs, check with your health insurer as to their policy coverage available.


Make sure your acupuncturist is referred by a friend or doctor, that they are certified and licensed and ask about their rates (treatment usually costs between $60-$120).  I have utilized acupuncture several years ago and found it to be effective.

8 oz salad-. organic spinach, 1 tbls sunflower seeds (roasted/no salt) broccoli, 4 asparagus, steamed purple cabbage, broccoli slaw (100 cal)


½ rinsed black beans (120 cal)


P.M. Snack-


apple (67 cal)


½ turkey sandwic-1.5 oz low-salt turkey on Ezekiel bread, romaine lettuce, ½ tsps.raw horseradish/0 % Greek yogurt (280 cal)


Dinner- daughter's graduation party!


crux-de-te (no dip)

Grilled chicken

 salad, green beans


1/2 cup wild rice salad




small portion low-calorie dark chocolate mousse(150 call)
