3 Simple Steps to Avoid the Flu This Year

Have you ever wondered why the flu has a season? The most common answer is that it is cold   outside and people are a lot closer together. That sounds reasonable right?  If that is the case, then why is it flu season in Florida too?  I always get a smile with that answer. The real reason that there is a flu season is because of what starts on October 31 and ends January 2.  It is called the Holiday Season.

The holidays are the time of year when our immune systems are the weakest. This time of year is when we have the most physical, chemical and emotional stress assaulting our bodies.  This strains and weakens our immune system.  Read the following list and see how many apply to you:  Increased sugar, overeating, increased alcohol, staying up late and financial worries. All of these things and more can affect your ability to fight off sickness. Try the following three steps to boost your immune system this holiday season!

1.  Get plenty of rest.  Sleep is time for your body to regenerate.  This is important healing and rebuilding time.

2.  Make healthy eating choices.  You don't have to eat all the cookies and candies at the party or at work. Eat larger portions of the healthy foods and smaller bite size portions of the desserts. You can also make sure you are taking vitamins.

3.  Relax. Take time this year to appreciate everything and everyone around you. Start and end everyday from now till the new year with a list of 5 things your are thankful for.
