Everyday waiting for FJ to come home was like pure torture but also like getting excited for Christmas.  I hated being away from him but I could also hardly sleep because I was so excited to come back to the Special Care Nursery the next day.  I would rush through my morning routines just to hurry it up so I could see him faster.  Getting to take him home was one of the best and scariest days of my life.  I will never forget it.  It was a chilly but beautiful day.  I remember wondering how much was too much or not enough clothes to dress him in when he came home.  I was terrified of the car ride - remember we live about 40 minutes away from the hospital.  What if he screamed the entire way home?  But of course, he stayed true to his personality thus far and was the happiest baby on the block.  The hospital has a service to get your baby's photos taken and they said he was the most amicable and pleasant baby they have ever had to work with.  The nurse got teary eyed when he left and joked around about him staying in the SCN.  He is just such an easy-going baby that it is difficult not to fall in love with him.  The car ride home was amazing; he slept the entire time!  However, that first night was tough.  We tried putting him in his crib which is what we had adamantly agreed upon before he was born.  We believe in the importance of time for ourselves in bed and I didn't want FJ starting some bad habits.  However, with the first two hours of his night he did sleep in his crib but not without bright-eyed, bushy tailed parents watching his every move on the monitor.  The next feeding we decided scratch this idea; maybe we can get a few more hours of sleep if he slept in this baby bassinet that goes actually in your bed and the sides keep him contained so he feels all swaddled up.  We didn't get much sleep that way - in fact, it was worse.  Every move he made kept us up and worried that somehow he would smother himself!
